Nia is a barefoot low impact fitness class with simple-to-master moves to a variety of music with mindfulness and personal choice at heart. It blends elements of yoga, martial arts and tai chi with simple dance movements for cardio, flexibility, strength, balance and coordination.
Ashtanga Vinyasa Primary Series is a style of yoga that works with the same set sequence of postures which are introduced gradually to the students and developed within the group. It comprises - Sun Salutations to warm the body up, followed by standing postures for strength and focus, then floor work for flexibility, back bends and inversions. It is generally accepted to be a strong yoga practice which is why it appeals to both men and women alike.
This is the practice for those students who are interested in achieving a high level of fitness, strength, flexibility and focus; and which will in time become a very effective meditative practice guided by the yoga teacher.
The men’s yoga class was started to encourage more men to try yoga – yoga is for everyone, and all the yoga classes at Perth Yoga Studio welcome men and women, however, many classes tend to be attended by far more women than men.
The men’s class is very friendly, and open to all levels. Following a general Hatha Yoga style, suitable for all levels including beginners, the same sequence of postures is followed each time, linking movement with the breath. With practice, the sequence becomes familiar, and you can start to see changes in strength and flexibility as you progress.
